When people talk about the planes and surfaces of the face, as they often do in tutorial videos and such, this is what comes to mind…
A vision of the face’s chaotic contours, reduced to universal cleavage and merged with a more abstract pattern of edges and volumes and void.
Studying the face has taught me a lot, but as with every specialized pursuit, the main thing I’ve learned is how little I actually know. This is true of the human outlook on nature and biology in general… no matter how sophisticated we give ourselves credit for being, design and architecture pales in comparison to the complexity of muscle and bone and biology.
