Weave (Inktober 2025-02)

A pen and ink drawing, created using brushes and fineliner pens, showing a disembodied forearm and hand pulling a thread downward. Another thread attaches to the forearm from below, implying that the hand is pulling its own string and unraveling itself. There are other strands of fiber hanging loosely about the hand. The number 02 appears to the left, and a column of messy, diluted black ink adds texture to the negative space.

I am connected to everything
And through everything
I am connected to myself

There is a long Inktober ahead of me — but honestly, finishing even a handful of these will be gratifying. I think I am learning a lot about the effects you can get with diffusion and dilution of the ink, and I am embracing the mess, which is generally EXTREMELY hard for me.

In the past, I’ve been an over-literal artist, putting too much pressure on myself to render things accurately. This would be fine if I was into hyper-realistic or narrative art, but the art I love best is wild and expressive. Give me George Bellows over Neoclassical painting any day, but just… give me 30 years to align my cautious instincts with my bohemian aspirations.

So give me chaos, give me reduction and expressive flow. I can find that in myself, even if I have to unstitch my own inclinations to get there.
