Three on the Path

I am wandering again. This may be why I’ve been slow to post sketches, which require a more deliberate momentum to continue drawing and scanning. I am doing my best to bring several preoccupations together into something larger. I am letting my aspiration lead me.
The three characters on this road, looking off into the distance, are Reason, Intuition, and Desire, carrying forward the chaotic, ever-fluctuating ego of a person lost in the wooded hills of life.
Or perhaps they are Art and Poetry and Music, steeling themselves to venture forth into a disenchanted landscape where they will recapture the itinerant human soul.
Maybe they are three cousins, the children of three elder siblings, and one is bitter, and one is hopeful, and one is withdrawn. Maybe they have to reclaim the skull of the petty god that once blessed their family, killed by a dark creature living beneath the oldest tree in the woods.
Maybe they are the restless ghosts of a hunter, their lover, and the jealous bystander who murdered them both. Maybe this forest is where they will all find reconciliation.
There, the trees are green. Here, it’s November, and they are shedding their leaves. Either way, the path goes on, and it will be a long time before we see any sign of a destination.
