Thousand Mile Eyes

“Need a steady hand on the rudder? I can do that. It’s hard to ruffle my feathers these days.”
Everyday life feels increasingly unsteady, probably because we’re permanently locked into crisis mode. This state of affairs benefits multiple parties in multiple ways — corporations looking to sell us peace of mind, bureaucrats angling for loyalty and engaging in constant games of misdirection, and power brokers siphoning off whatever sense we have of our own agency and influence. It’s good for everybody, except the people trapped in the vortex (i.e. the rest of us).
The feeling that you barely have enough energy to spend on self-care, because the walls are closing in… that’s a hard trap to escape from. This little sketch is a vision of a person who has found some kind of anchor in the storm, though he may have come a long way to get there.
